Arctic Winter Skills
600 Euros + 150 for the accommodation
Winter Skills Intensive
In the first days we will dive into the traditional skills. Several hours each day will be dedicated to crafting and learning, both indoors and out.
I generally wait to meet the group to determine the pace of the class depending on the needs and abilities of the group, because the classes are small it is possible to accommodate both beginners and more advanced participants.
The last 3 days will be market days you can spend your time leisurely experiencing the Sami culture and getting acclimatized.
There is a vast program of activities and presentations all over town and I will be giving a public slideshow and presentation.
Stories and yoiking with the locals
Fat lamps and torches
Skiing and snowshoeing
Friction fire making
Carving wooden spoons and bowls
Knife hafting handles and sheaths
Birch bark usage
During the market there will be reindeer racing and dog sledding available at your own expense as well as many stalls and activities throughout the weekend. It is good to bring some additional cash for these days although meals will still be served.
Two meals are served each day (they are paleo diet based on reindeer and elk meat with vegetables and other local foods.) Students can purchase snack lunches from the local market.
