Animal Processing

700EU/7000NOK
Blikberget Norway

The annual moose hunt is a community event in Norway.

Join Living wild to experience the gifts of the hunt.

For-rest Eco hunt is offering a sustainable hunt that focuses on the health of the environment.

Living Wild school is working beside them to expand the concept of using the whole animal.

There are a hundred different things that can be made from the dismembered parts of a large game animal and unfortunately today many hunters discard these valuable resources as waste. Our ancestors recognized and utilized the gift of animal life in its entirety not just for food but a myriad of other uses.

Join us for an in depth animal processing class that will give you the confidence and knowledge to prepare either wild game or domestic animals and use all the animal with almost zero waste.

  • We will use horses to help bring game out of the forest.

  • Butcher and skin the animals with Stone Age tools

  • Rack the hide to prepare for scraping

  • Render fat

  • Process the often discarded parts and organs including heart, liver, lung, spleen, testicles, brain.

  • Bone scraper tools will be made from legs

  • Hooves made into spoons

  • Accommodation is in lavvo tents beside the pristine lake Holmsjøen.

Participants are also welcome and encouraged to sit in the forest beside the designated hunters to experience the hunt in an intimate way without bearing a weapon themselves.

This class includes 2 meals per day consisting of locally grown vegetables and the spoils of the hunt. During your free moments you can also fish in the lake for the small but abundant perch.
